If It's True That... Then Why...?

If it's true that time heals all wounds then why do I keep going around pulling the scabs off?

If it's true that the right one will find you when you aren't looking then why hasn't the right one found me in the last couple of years when I wasn't looking at all?

If it's true that autumn is your favorite time of year then why are you so grumpy about having to go out and rake leaves?

If it's true that the Illini are #13 in the nation then why did they almost lose to Western Carolina last night?

If it's true that students get into university based on high intelligence then why do they do stupid things like walk in front of your car in the dark wearing dark clothing?

If it's true that people should treat others the way they would want to be treat then why do they lie to, cheat on and steal from each other?

If it's true that I am totally wasting my time asking silly questions on my blog then why am I still here?

That's it.  I'm outta here...

Hypothetical Question of the Day

Facts of the situation:

Pat’s spouse cannot have sex for medical reasons.
Pat desires sex.
Robin desires sex.
Pat expresses desire to Robin disclosing Pat’s spouse’s condition and that Pat has no other feelings for Robin beyond friendship.

Both Pat and Robin remain discreet in their relationship so that no one else knows.

Question:

Dwelling Too Much

Sometimes I dwell on things too much. Sometimes I think too much. Sometimes I wonder if I could just shut off my brain occasionally if I wouldn’t be in a better place. You know, something akin to the “Ignorance is bliss” theory.

Also, I’m a reader, an avid reader. When I find a blog that I enjoy reading then I read it completely, going back in the archives and working my way forward. Sometimes I do so all at once. Sometimes it takes time, going back time and again until I’m caught up to the present day.

Add to that the fact I have a fairly decent (far from perfect) memory so that I pretty well know the basics that were relayed in a blog’s history even if I don’t remember the details.

Now, put all those things together, and sometimes I can just darned near drive myself crazy going over and over and over things, trying to put pieces together. I try to make the pieces fit together so that the picture they make is the one I want to see. Sometimes the reality is that the picture made from the puzzle is of the Eiffel Tower and no matter how badly you want to see the London Bridge you cannot put the puzzle together in such a way as to make it be a picture of London Bridge.

Hmmm. . . . took a little time after writing that last paragraph to read it again and reread it and think some about it. There’s some wisdom there (who woulda thunk such a thing could come from me?), and I had to spend some time letting it roll around in my brain. Okay, so now you have a picture of the Eiffel Tower when you really wanted a picture of London Bridge and thought from the box it came in that’s what you were getting. You don’t have exactly what you want, but you sure can’t change one into the other. It is what it is. You have to decide if you are pleased enough with the picture of the Eiffel Tower to keep it and forget about looking for a picture of London Bridge, or if you are going to rid yourself of the picture of the Eiffel Tower so that you can search for a real picture of London Bridge. Do you keep the picture of the Eiffel Tower in hopes that in time it will take on more characteristics of the London Bridge? Do you pretend you really wanted a picture of the Eiffel Tower all along and try to forget about the desire for the picture of London Bridge? Do you throw away the picture of the Eiffel Tower even if you don’t know if you will ever find a picture of London Bridge?

See? Dwelling too much. . .

Score One for Me

Will wonders never cease? I was right!! I think the Silent Male was right in his comment to my previous post though, I’ll keep the day job as cover.

What really blows me away is that it was kept a secret from me for absolutely no good reason. Just goes to show that sometimes people just don’t know me as well as they think they do. OMG, I can’t tell you how relieved I am over this.

Maybe one of these days I’ll explain all of this, but probably not so don’t wait for it.

Just in Case You'd Like to Wager

Well, I went ahead and risked mortal embarrassment to seek to confirm the answer. I am now awaiting the response to my query. By day’s end I hope to either know that I am a brilliant and cunning sleuth who should give up my day job as a mild mannered accountant to become a private eye, or that I am a complete bungling idiot who should learn not to let her imagination run away with her.

I hear the odds are running 10:1 on the latter case.

Elementary My Dear Watson

Did you ever think you had figured out the answer to something but had no easy way to find out if you were right or not without possibly making a complete fool of yourself if you're wrong?

Frustrating, my friends, most frustrating. . .

Can't Quite Give It Up

Well, thanks to being an athletic fund donor (small $ but a donor nevertheless) I am now the owner of four tickets to the Rose Bowl game.

So I'm invested so far to the tune of $540.

Now, what to do with them.

Use them?

Sell them?

Sell some of them to finance the travel portion of the trip?

Give them away and be done with it?

Trade a couple of them to some wealthy person for a ride on his/her private jet out to the game and back?

Some of these options seem more plausible than others.

Now, how am I supposed to concentrate on work today? Huh?

Strictly Hypothetical

Strictly on a hypothetical basis now, this problem may or may not come from the actual life of someone I know or not. How would you react?

Background:
You have a brother. Let's say his name is Henry. When you were kids you didn't get along well. As an adult you suspect he may have some kind of undiagnosed/untreated mental health issue(s). You try as best you can to get along, but for the past few years he has cut you from his life and refused to discuss with you the reasons or what you might do to restore the relationship even though you have made a few attempts to do so.

Current situation:
While out for dinner with your spouse, child(ren) and parents, your mom during a conversation about your brother's family (the nephews you aren't allowed to see) says, "I always did think Henry was a little weird." The conversation continues and she repeats the above statement, adding "I don't know what you ever thought" with an inflection that infers a question.

Hypothetical questions:
How do you respond to your mom? Do you respond at all? Do you respond differently given the public nature of the locale and/or the fact that your child(ren) is/are present and listening to the conversation?

Question I’m Pondering

Facts:

A discussion is had between husband and wife prior to wife leaving for work in the morning.
During the discussion it is agreed that husband and wife will lunch together at home that day.
No particular time is specified for lunch, but most days wife arrives home for lunch, if she is lunching at home, somewhere between 12:15 and 12:45 in the afternoon.
When wife arrives just before 12:30 husband is not home.
Wife passes husband going the other way on the road as she returns to work at 1:20.
No calls, emails, or any form of communication were received by wife from husband at any time during the day.

Question:

At what time should husband expect wife to commence instilling great bodily harm on him?
